Oregon Cascades West Council of Governments provides services on traditional, ancestral land that prior to colonization and the forced removal of indigenous people was cared for and inhabited by the following tribes: Älsé, Chelamela, Chemapho, Klickitat, Chepenefa, Kalapuya, Luckiamute, Santiam, Tsankupi, Yakina, Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians.
Additionally, Oregon was founded as a state that excluded Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color. These laws and practices created the circumstances where Indigenous and other communities of color in Oregon have and continue to face less rights, privileges, and access than their white peers.
Additional tribes may have been present in this area. Learn more at https://native-land.ca
